CDM Recruitment’s Architectural Specialist Lee Hopkin was recently invited to the BIM Live show in Newcastle. As someone with a keen interest in Digital Construction, Lee jumped at the chance to attend this headline event. Here Lee shares his thoughts on the event and why he’ll be returning next year:
“I was lucky enough to have recently been invited to attend BIM Show Live by Space Group. Rob Charlton and team brought the show back to its roots, hosting it in my home town of Newcastle.
This was my first visit to BIM Show Live and I was certainly not left disappointed, I thought it would be a great opportunity to mingle with some serious BIM professionals but was overwhelmed by how much more I took away from it.
Having attended numerous construction conferences over the years I was unsure what to expect. BIM Live’s engaging, fun feel was apparent from arrival with the BIM Store cow a central feature and the historic boiler room venue set with a real Geordie feel.
Being someone who has a keen professional interest in the sector (but admittedly far from an expert) I was a little awed by the number of key influencers in digital construction, however the speakers and delegates were incredibly engaging.
I couldn’t help but think that some other conferences could really learn from the excellent balance of entertainment and information delivered. At times I felt as though I was watching a really good TV show but was learning at the same time and gaining a real insight into the future of the construction industry. The passion for the subject was evident in every speaker and made it easy to be drawn in, and even when things proved too technical for my limited knowledge, the overriding ideas and principles being conveyed shone through.
Starting with Mark Shayler’s rousing and inspirational music driven key note the time flew by and was interesting, thought provoking and at times terrifying(!) insight into digital construction and the future of the construction industry.
I will certainly be attending next year and would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in digital construction and what the future holds for our industry.”
