Profile: Alex Fahy – Construction Trades Resourcer at CDM

CDM Recruitment’s Construction Trades Resourcer Alex Fahy, recently returned to the business in February after spending a year away. Here we have a bit of a catch up with Alex to find out how she has found her time back with us so far.

You’ve just returned to CDM after leaving to explore another opportunity. Why did you end up returning to CDM?

I initially joined CDM in 2012 and at the start of 2016 I was approached by another firm regarding another recruitment opportunity. CDM were very supportive and I left on good terms.

CDM has a very unique working environment unlike any I have worked in before, this was even more evident when I left and hence why I returned to CDM last month.

You are fully supported in your role and your effort and contribution is genuinely valued by the company.

How are you finding being a part of the team again?

It has been like I never left! I almost feel like the time I was away didn’t actually happen!

What’s your day-to-day role?

I’m a Resourcer within CDM’s Construction Trades team. The team consists of eight highly experienced trades recruiters and I support Anne White who is one of two Consultants at CDM who specialises in main contracting and sub-contracting. The rest of the team consists of recruiters who specialise in Civil Engineering, Housebuilding, Social Housing & Public Sector and M&E.

What skills do you need for that role?

I think to be a Resourcer you need to be thick skinned and have perseverance as it isn’t always the easiest job to do especially when you are given a difficult role to fill. You also need to be able to build and develop strong relationships with Candidates and Clients.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

Walking out the office when you have filled all of the roles you have been given to work on for that day!

And the most challenging?

Working on multiple hard to fill roles and managing no shows on a morning!

What would you be doing if you hadn’t decided to follow this career path?

Be the next Neil Armstrong – I always wanted to be an astronaut!!

How do you relax when you’re not at work?

What all 24 year olds do best – have a night out! I also like to watch the horse racing and have a cheeky bet!
