CDM are delighted to be working with a world class product development company who work in the field of environmental engineering, supplying products into the automotive, oil, gas and petrochemical industries.

Due to ongoing growth and an extremely positive 2017, there is an immediate, Permanent requirement for a Category Buyer to join the successful operation in the North East.

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Category Purchasing and Group Managing Director, the Category Buyer will source and identify suppliers globally for steel and ductile iron castings. 80% of purchases cover steel and ductile iron castings buying. You will be familiar with automated disamatic casting processes and investment castings. A very challenging but fantastic opportunity for the right candidate

Key Responsibilities

· Commodity group purchase steel and castings, focused on part and supplier portfolio
· Active contribution of cost reduction programs and growth programs with new projects
· Yearly price negotiations of serial products
· Negotiation and contract design in coordination with the superior Category Manager
· Creating of the Total Cost Comparison including supplier recommendation
· Creating of Sourcing Boards presentation and presentation of a suitable decision
· Compliance with an implementation of purchasing processes including formal framework conditions
· Orientation of all measures and decisions to purchasing management KPIs
· Purchase responsibly for selected suppliers including price negotiations and target agreements
· Benchmark surveys on the purchasing volume in order to deduce savings potential and supplier strategy
· Central linking point between the Centre Of Competence Purchasing and the Global Category Purchasing Team
· Functional reporting to the Regional Category Manager Castings
· Will be measured on cost savings, delivery performance and parts per million
· Will have no responsibility for direct or operational personnel

Skills and Experience

· Must have had at least 3 years experience in an automotive buyer background and be familiar with ductile iron castings, automated disamatic casting processes and investment castings
· Must have a commercial and/or technical degree with a good understanding of materials
· Must have had at least 3 years experience of working in a similar role
· Must be computer literate with a very good knowledge in the use of MS-Office, SAP and SRM
· Must have very good English skills (oral and written)
· Must have knowledge of purchase methods and tools as well as project management
