We are seeking a Commercial Manager to work for a well-known civil engineering contractor that operates as a main or sub-contractor specialising in Marine and FRC RC Structures based out of offices in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
The organisation has been established over 17 years, has a turnover over 14 million per annum, employs around 30 direct members and delivers projects ranging from 5K up to 19Million in value and has delivered projects in the North East, North West, Scotland and Southern England. Projects include costal structures, major quayside construction, Quayside and jetty repairs and new and repair work to road bridges and concrete structures.
We are seeking an experienced commercial lead with a proven career of managing quantity surveyors mainly working on NEC forms of contracts. The successful applicant will be directly reporting into the MD and will advise and lead on all things commercial for the company, duties of the role will include but not restricted to:
Implementation of commercial procedures and overseeing the integration of a new accounting and cost management systems
Monitoring and reporting company overheads, cash-flow forecasts, Turnover, profit & loss forecasts to the directors
Identifying spend patterns and monitoring spend against project allowances
Pre and post contract negotiations and final account settlement
Management of Quantity Surveyors, Recruitment, CPD Training & mentoring of trainee & intermediate quantity surveyors
Re-wording NEC3 Subcontract & Professional Services contract clauses in line with marine risks and company policies
The commercial review of all tenders including risk identification, clause review and insurance/performance bond/collateral warranty requirements
Using your experience of Construction law to assist with dispute resolution, contract formation and payment practices
Provide input into complex commercial & technical tender submissions eg, production of Activity Schedules & Bills of Quantities, budgets and cost comparisons for design options, key sub-contractor procurement and risk analysis
Given the organisations specialism the organisation undertakes work UK wide therefore the role will require an element of travel possibly 1-2 days out the office per week therefore successful applicant must have a driving licences and be able to travel where required.
